At the 8th SEAMEO Centres Policy Research Network (CPRN) Summit held in Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam, SEAMEO VOCTECH brought together regional experts to discuss how health research can inform policy, strengthen collaboration, and build trust in science-led solutions. Guided by the Summit’s theme, “Building Bridges to a Sustainable Future,” the event featured a dedicated science session highlighting the importance of evidence-based decision-making across Southeast Asia.

To connect the wide range of topics, the BRIDGE Framework was introduced:
B – Bridging inclusion and equity for every learner
R – Re-defining and re-aligning TVET greening skills for future workforce readiness
I – Integration of AI, immersive learning, and adaptive platforms
D – Digital transformation in education
G – Growing cultural heritage through education
E – Empowering science, health, nutrition, and lifelong learning

The BRIDGE framework served to unify the Summit’s diverse presentations, linking varied research themes to the region’s shared commitment to sustainability, inclusion, and innovation. Presentations and panel discussions were divided into three clusters: Education, Science, and Culture.

During the Science Panel Discussion, titled “Translating Health Research: Strengthening Evidence-Based Decision-Making for a Healthier Southeast Asia,” the SEAMEO Secretariat presented its newest programme, Developing Research Excellence and Mentorship in Southeast Asia (SEA DREAM).

Mr. Ansgar Schaefer, SEA DREAM’s Head of Programme, delivered an overview of the initiative, highlighting eligibility criteria and priority areas for the upcoming DREAM 4 Health 2026 Call for Proposals. He emphasised the programme’s core mission: to support high-quality, collaborative research that can directly inform health policies and strengthen regional resilience.

The session highlighted SEA DREAM’s focus on translating high-quality research into effective health policies and practical solutions. Discussions covered the alignment of research with policy needs, challenges in conducting multi-country studies, regional capacity-building efforts, and the importance of research integrity and public trust in advancing evidence-based decision-making across Southeast Asia.

The panelists highlighted the importance of cross-sector dialogue and collaborative action to address evolving health and development challenges in Southeast Asia. SEA DREAM’s contribution aligned with CPRN’s wider efforts to promote innovation, strengthen partnerships, and champion evidence-informed policies.

As the region faces increasingly complex health challenges, SEA DREAM’s engagement at the Summit demonstrated its commitment to supporting research-driven solutions for a more resilient and sustainable future.

The DREAM 4 Health Call for Proposals 2026 is scheduled to open on 30 January 2026, inviting regional consortia to submit innovative and collaborative proposals aimed at improving health outcomes across Southeast Asia.
